![]() ![]() The feasibility and practicality of the method are verified using experimental data collected at the newly constructed King Storm Water Bridge in California, United States. The accuracy of the method is numerically verified using a set of time histories that are simulated using a finite-element method. The proposed method is particularly efficient when a high resolution of mode shape is essential. The natural frequencies are extracted from a noise-free signal that is projected on the estimated modal basis. For a set of given mode-isolated signals, the un-damped mode shapes are extracted utilizing the singular value decomposition of the output energy correlation matrix with respect to sensor locations. The proposed method is based on an approach with a single-degree-of-freedom in the time domain. This work proposes a new output-only modal analysis method to extract mode shapes and natural frequencies of a structure.
